Day 6 - Riviere du Loup to Degelis

Rained hard during the night, but we were cozy and warm, mmm better than camping. Rain gone by morning but damp and cool.

Decided to make our own way to the Petit Temis bike path and as a result got lost and had to resort to asking directions. The gravel path was very soft and hard work to ride on, but it was quiet and peaceful and we could hear the birds. In fact we only saw 5 other folks on the bike path all day.

Tim's bike is making so much noise, squeaks and groans it sounds like my back when I first get up, but it seems nothing is amiss. We had second breakfast at just over 30 kms.

The next surprise was a large tree which fully blocked the route, and I had to resort to my Swiss army penknife to cut branches to give us some room to pass.

Cabano came up around 2:30 and we were ready for lunch of pizza and caffeine. The scene was enlivened by a road repair outfit laying gravel, making conversation very difficult and the use of the word "Eh?" common place. A truly bonding experience.

It had become evident that Degile was more than the estimated 84km some 27km more in fact, so Ron took a lot of stick for bad route planning. What can you say?

In summary the path is still a great route and a credit to Quebec , but much harder than I remember it from 10 years ago.

We finally got to Motel 1212 around 18:00h and Ron flooded the bathroom while taking a shower. Marge took a negative fit and required a large Baileys to restore her usual good temper, along with a small meal of a 1000 calories or so.

We downloaded a raft of photos for your future delectation, but too tired tonight to upload them to Picassa. Maybe tomorrow. Night-night.

  2. Your Swiss Army knife was great eh?
Finks - if Switzerland is neutral how come they have an Army - shouldn't be a Swiss Guard knife?

  3. Let us know what ferry you'll be on in Pictou. We'll be there to pick you up! And there's a lobster pound at the wharf just up the road.
