Day 28 - Rest Day

Rest day 2 - St John’s

We ate a good breakfast where we were introduced to Toutons, then took a walk to Bill’s cycle shop where we picked up 2 bike boxes. Unfortunately, we had a long walk back to the Hostel in torrential rain where we got the boxes wet, (surprise). We then stripped the bike for transport, lazed around, wrote the blog, drank tea and waited for the boxes to dry enough so that the box tape would stick. (Who says men are not multi-taskers?) So that’s it for today.

In deference to the Editor, I have deliberately used fewer subordinate clauses and reduced the number of commas. Thanks for that input.

Hurrah! - Ed

Tomorrow it is the flight to Victoria so those with maps of our progress will have to go all the way to the left side to see where we are. In summary, we have ridden longer, further, higher and better than any trip before to get here. We’ve been lucky for the most part with the wind and weather; the traffic has been light and good natured. Best driver award goes to Province of New Brunswick so far. Most importantly, we’ve met many nice people, and found out we were loved a lot by those we left behind. Special thanks go to Emily, who took time off work to gently shepherd us and welcome us to St John’s and is an excellent companion. The Skype event was very special thanks to all involved.

  1. Here I am, no longer on dial up and able to follow your blog in real time. The Skype connection on Monday was really interesting. Making contact with two intrepid tandermists in the back of a MAZDA was a unique experience.
The previous night's connection featured, in the absence of the principals who were last seen heading to a pub on George Street, Emily's room, neighbourhood, the harbor, flatmates etc.. etc.
Please post photos I can now enjoy them.
You should by now be in Victoria remember to go East young man.
All the best from Sandra & Davey

  2. Hope the flight was good and uneventful, always a good thing when flying I think. Now you are (a few hours) behind us, but rest assured, you'll catch up with us eventually, by about the middle of August by my reckoning.
Mike and I celebrated St Jean with 100s of other Montarvillois(e) by the lake on Tuesday night, sitting on our camping chairs in the playground of Montarville School enjoying the music of Bottine Souriante, interupted by 10 minutes of pretty good fireworks. I've never seen so many folks down there before, fun was had by all, singing, dancing, clapping, ooohing, aaahing, all on a balmy night. Lovely. St Jean was actually spent in an early morning bike ride, followed by Wimbledon and basking round a certain swimming pool, jumping in every now and then to cool off. Oh the holidays, don't you just love them?
Happy and safe pedaling my friends.
    Love
    Annie

  3. I am so happy that you both got screeched and honored with your own numbers in Newfie Land! Donna and I are checking the blog every day and are very proud of you. I know it must be grueling at times, but just think of what you've already accomplished and is yet to come. WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT! By the way, we were thinking of using your back yard for the 1st of July party. It's really the best spot in St. Bruno and, well, you're not here to stop us! Have fun, we will...

  4. Ron and Marge. Nice to be riding along with you. Many of the spots you write about remind me of our Trans-Canada trip in 06. Sounds like your having a great time.
Don't forget if you make it into the Peg (Winnipeg) you've got a place to stay. I've talked to the other guys and we'll try and get together for a BBQ.
Now that your over Allison pass, Crows Nest is a breeze! Assuming the wind is blowing in the right direction of course.
I think one of our guys mentioned it in NFLD but just in case we didn't. There is a pretty good hostel in Fernie, it was called the Raging Elk.
Keep the rubber side down! Ken Preston
