Day 7 - Degelis to St Leonard

We ate our breakfast in the room and were out on the trail by 9:00 am.

Clear blue skies and a strong tail wind made riding the trail into Edmunston most pleasant. It was much drier today and with little altitude gain, the living was easy. New Brunswick has put a lot of effort into improving the trail and its amenities since we were here 10 years ago, and the ride into town is now a pleasant experience right to the end.

We crossed the Madawaska river on a quaint foot bridge, and made our way into the centre of town for lunch. After leaving Subway, the next few minutes were something of a farce while we decided which way to go to get to ”Sang Linore.”

The next 44 kms were magic, the slightly down hill well surfaced road combined with a strong tail wind kept our speed up all the way to the Motel Alberge. This Motel is a little gem, double rooms @ $55 per night and a very welcoming Maitre d’. We showered and changed and sat around all afternoon recovering. Life can’t get better than this.

Margie’s Observations: Tuesday is grass cutting day –a sit upon lawn tractor and floppy hat is de riguer. Cemeteries that we passed were beautifully decked out in a profusion of bright flowers.

  1. Saw Daniel and Christiane this evening on the way back from adding pucks to your pool while you were off swanning into New Brunswick. They have you bookmarked so be prepared! Cognac was doing high fives and other party tricks. Glad to hear you didn't get too lost on that bike trail. Don't you have a GPS? By the way has Marge received the wide screen handlebar HDTV yet? The Debster called to get a flasher bulb changed before her trip. Hard to get to so Debster held the bulb and I lifted and turned the Echo. She left a cd as recompense for my efforts!

  2. Glad the weather's improving and you had an easier day, downhill and a following wind should follow you all the days of your ride. Nicki came over yesterday and while walking with Stephinie and Molly (dog) put out your recycling, That'll confuse people and make them think someone's at home! It's a lovely sunny morning here so I'm going for a walk or bike ride before I go to work this afternoon. Mike and his partener still haven't won in 3 semi rounds of their gold league this year, but at least it was a nice evening for it yesterday!

  4. While you four were swanning around enjoying yourselves in the Baie des Chaleurs we three were slogging up the stairs of rue Petit Champlain in Quebec City. We saw the two cats, walked the Dufferin Terrace climbed up the Governors Walk to the Citadel then walked down Grand Allée, had a refuelling pitstop at the Café de Paris and evntually arrived at Place Royale in time for a well earned cappuccino/sangria/Unibroue russe. Marge will recognise who ordered what. We then took the ferry back over to our base in Levis, where totally knackered the ladies watched Federer reach the semis at Roland Garros, and Davey watched the Penguins outgun the Redwings for the second straight game. A game fast and skillful enough to give hockey a good name.
Got up early to read your blog, solved a wireless problem on the hotel computer, but where are you. No doubt sleeping off the sunburn now you`re down by the sea. Enjoy the brilliant weather, successful wifi hunting and above all travel safe.
love from Sandra, Norma and Davey in Levis
