Day 9 - Kedgwick to Campbellton

We breakfasted in the Motel O'Regal and were on the road by 9:00am.

The weather was perfect once again for biking; cool with a stiff breeze from the south west. The forecast is good so we plan to camp tonight.

(Last night, to get Tim and Dot used to the cool night air, I opened the balcony door. It sure was a little nippy at 4:30 in the morning.)

Still friends, we made excellent time along the almost deserted highway. The traffic, especially the log trucks took great care in passing us safely often to the detriment of oncoming cars. On occasion, they gave us encouragement by flashing lights, or tooting their air horn. It brought smiles to our faces.

At Glenwood we climbed the first sustained low gear climb of about 130m altitude shortly followed by a 11% descent of about 250m. This was very exciting in the now strong side wind. We stopped for a coffee at the bottom of the the hill, then it was almost all 30+kph into Campbellton. We made a quick visit to the information office, and purchased two flags, a New Brunswick and an Acadian, to replace the donated Quebec flag which had gone for a flier some time during the day.

We set up camp at Sugarloaf Provincial Park, and remade our intimate aquaintance with black flies and mosquitoes. Please introduce me to the twit that stopped Canadians from buying full strength Deet. I have a little plan for him, or her.

Supper was cooked al fresco, torellinini au boeuf, with mushrooms, peppers, onions and added minced meat followed by apple pie and coffee. I can't believe our luck with the weather, but we'll take the smooth as long as we can......

  1. Hi Guys and Ron, we just got back from our incredible 52k Tour de l'ile (in one piece). The first 10k were a bit hairy but after that things thinned out somewhat. We managed a steady average 20 klicks according to Andrew's fancy clock/odometer/speedometer/temperature gauge/fortune telling apparatus.
    (I know you've got 2 of them)
I realize that this is paltry stuff when compared to your magnificent achievements but my longest ride this year until today was less than 20k.
Unfortunately I forgot my camera so we don't have any actual proof of my achievement.
(this was a walk in the park for Andrew)
Anyway enough about me, it's great to see you guys doing so well, and I hope the weather gods stay with you a while longer.
These blogs will make a great book when you get back.
The photos are great but I didn't notice any of the colourful cemetery's you passed or the guys on lawn tractors, doesn't the co-pilot take pictures on the wheel so to speak. I see (from your itinerary) the next few days are a little longer than usual and you should pass the 1000k mark sometime today is this a cause for some celebration or what.
    Happy Trails and best wishes.

  2. Dear R&M
Glad to hear that you are sharing you supper with those biker friendly BlackFs and other natural delights. We are having fun keeping up to date on your great adventure....its almost like being there, without the pain!
Anyway I came across a short inspiration piece that you can take out and meditate on when you are perhaps feeling a little tired and beaten-up. In fact when I read it I thought that you guys could have written it:

    Do the Inexpected
    Be not Afraid of Anything
    Say Yes! to Adventure
Smile. Laugh. Have Fun! Be Spontaneous
    Live with no Regrets
    Visualize your Desires every Day
Follow the Flow of your Life
Harness the Power of the Present
    Lead the Way
Mine the Infinite Potential and Energy

Thats it: Keep up the great work, stay healthy and happy, the rest will take care of itself.

    Love,
    Mimi&John
