Day 70 Rennie to Kenora

Pictures Itinerary JDRF

The forecast was for a high of 17C so we didn’t rush to get up. Breakfast was served at the hotel and was excellent. Marge has recovered somewhat from her bout of stomach flu and ate quite well. The road was slightly up hill as we left Rennie and later became undulating reminding us that we had not done any climbing since we left Waterton. The sky kept threatening rain but

managed to hold off as we went down the Old Highway 1 (TCH) passing many little rivers and lakes till we got to Hawk Lake where we found a restaurant and had second breakfast and a chat with an old lady who had been a biker and canoeist in her time.

Onto the TCH for the last leg into Kenora only to find that there was no shoulder due to construction for about 20km. We found it a little nerve wracking, but not too bad as the traffic was very light. We stopped at the border to try to get a Manitoba flag and ended up with two small paper ones which will have to do. Later we tried to get an Ontario flag from a couple of Tourist Information places, the second of which I had to walk out of as the attitude of the Hostess was so off hand and devoid of useful information it was upsetting me.

We were both about spent and made a bee line for A&W for an Uncle Burger for me and a muffin for Marge. Then off to the Kenora Inn Motel for the night. The lady there told us that Robert and Clare were stayed there last night!

Smoked sausage for supper with mash and beans cooked in our room. Chocolate milk, oatmeal cookies and tea. What could be better.

Average 21.7kph

Today’s height 600m (585 descent)

Today’s distance 96km

Total distance 4979km

I think that’s all the news that fit to blog Tomorrow we should be in Souix Narrows

Night, night.

  1. Well that's a relief!! Some of us were getting a little nervous back here, having not heard anything from you for almost a week.
    We're glad you're both o.k.
Pity about the pictures but I guess they will come eventually.
The weather is not too bad, not too hot, a little rain for the weekend and winds from the NW.
Happy trails, hope the hard shoulders improve.
    Love, Al & Margaret

  2. Gald to hear from you again, I'd had several phone calls asking if you were ok, did I know anything. Your well being matters to us all. Glad to hear Marge is feeling better.
We've been keeping our eyes open on Skype , maybe we can "get together" sometime. We're off out now to ride by the Chambly Canal. Keep those wheels spinning.

PS Nicki bungy jumped yesterday and lived to tell the tale.

  3. Back in the bookshop in Gananoque to find out how you 2 are faring. This morning we canoed watching beaver and Turkey Vultures. PM went hiked to big water for a swim only to find half a dozen power boats and a few canoes had beaten us to it. still I did my swim and enjoyed it immensely. This evening we're at the Fire Hall Theatre in Gananoque. Glad to hear you still have spare tires. enjoy your wifi blackout and the "trees and rocks and rocks and trees and water" of western ontario.
    Safe biking.......love dave & sandra
